Cultural and Linguistic Diversity

Updated: Apr 20, 2019

Every day, we encounter people from other places. Here's how to engage with that depth.

Diversity sounds nice, right? When you're struggling to understand someone or make yourself understood in another language, it doesn't feel as nice in the moment. How do you engage with the rich diversity of experiences and cultures, without getting lost in translation?

There's a lot of talk about culturally responsive teaching, but what is authentic engagement with one's culture?

Communication doesn't depend just on language. Each time we hear slang, make references, or explain ourselves in detail, we depend on cultural references and similarities to convey the true message. How can we more effectively communicate with people who come from a completely different cultural frame of reference?

Crossing Language Barriers

Navigating another language takes nuance and a human touch. Context, emotion, body language, and a range of other factors all come into play. When important matters are on the line, you can't afford to let your message get lost along the way. Make sure to have all your document #translations in order, hire an #interpreter if you need one, and make sure you have had the #consulting you need to help you assess the best way to achieve your common goals across cultural and linguistic barriers.
